First Seasonal Forum on Cold Season Risks in the RA


On November 24, a workshop on “The natural and climatic risks of the cold season in Armenia” was held in Yerevan. This was the first similar workshop, organized within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Service of the RA MTAES and “Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia” (RIMES).

The aim of the event was to adopt approaches in the result of common discussions of the Hydro-meteorological Service of the RA MTAES and the ministries using weather and climate information, on improving the quality of hydro-meteorological and climate services and identifying needs, for providing the recommendations for integration into project design and implementation of meteorological and hydrological services.

According to the agenda, the representatives of the RA MTAES Hydro-meteorological Service and stakeholders presented a number of reports on the following topics:

  • The hydro-meteorological and climatic services in Armenia.
  • Climatology and climate change in Armenia, climate models and risks.
  • Geological characteristics and risks of Armenia.
  • Information on risks and maintenance.
  • Energy (renewable), managing water resources, agriculture, transport, health sectors, Yerevan Municipality, Balneology and Physical Medicine Research Institute's climate services.

It was decided to discuss the proposals in the bilateral format with the beneficiary agencies, to summarize and present the results to RIMES- anticipating respective assistance.
