RA TAES Minister Awarded Partners of the Ministry from U.S. Embassy


On November 11, RA TAES Minister Armen Yeritsyan received Bilateral Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, Major Justin Thomas Rutledge, inter-military program coordinator Ani Melkonyan, the newly appointed Head of the Office of Defense Cooperation(ODC), Major John Friel. The purpose of the meeting was the completion of Major Rutledge’s mission in Armenia since 2013.

Thanking Major Rutledge for effective cooperation with MTAES in the sphere of emergency situations and for the successful implementation of joint programs, Minister Yeritsyan noted:

- “In 2011, we were only dreaming of “911” service, and we had just began to examine the US experience in this field, but thanks to productive collaboration, today the service “911” has it’s constant place in our society and, it seems, the service has always operated in our country.

Expressing gratitude for warm reception, Major Rutledge expressed hope, that the Armenian-American cooperation in emergency situations will continue in the same depth and at the highest level.

In conclusion, RA TAES Minister awarded Major Justin Thomas Rutledge medal “Cooperation for Salvation” for the support provided in the programs implemented by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations, as well as for close cooperation with the Ministry. The Minister also presented certificate of appreciation to Ani Melkonyan, the inter-military programs coordinator of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia.

Note, that, Major Rutledge had undertaken and introduced the RA fire stations activity concept to the U.S. European Command throughout his mission in Armenia, and submitted the concept to higher headquarters for approval.

Major Rutledge had also implemented HCA program, in the frames of which, KSNG engineers renovated the bathroom of MTAES’s gym, to make it accessible for people with disabilities. He was also engaged in launching the crisis communication and public awareness programs in case of major disasters. He had proposed the relevant US agencies to implement study visit by the teams of appropriate public awareness, aimed at sharing best practices.
