Cooperation with the World Bank is being Expanded


On June 17, the RA TAES Deputy Minister Haykaram Mkhitaryan received the World Bank Disaster Risk Management Specialist Ko Takeuchi.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the areas of further cooperation in the field of disaster risk management with relevant specialists of MTAES, and to present the review of activities implemented since the last meeting.

Mr. Takeuchi thanked for the reception and effective cooperation, highlighting the importance of such working meetings.

He informed, that the concept paper for the participation in the grant program has been submitted to responsible persons and expressed hope, that it would be soon approved. The program would be aimed at strengthening the disaster management system in Armenia, enhancing disaster preparedness, development of financing strategies for disaster risk reduction.

During the meeting, Ko Takeuchi noted, that a new component is offered in the framework of the grant program – to support the Armenian Government in the development of disaster risk management information platform and creation of common information base, which will contribute to urban planning, effective risk management and rapid response in case of disasters.

RA MTAES Deputy Minister thanked the guest for active cooperation, and noted, that the directions set forth in the grant program are of TAES Ministry’s priorities. At the same time, H. Mkhitaryan stressed, that there were always other directions by which the cooperation can be expanded.

During the discussion, MTAES responsibles presented their observations on the directions of the proposed grant project, particularly, on creation of Information Database and implementation of activities for further cooperation.

In conclusion, the World Bank representative visited the Crisis Management National Center, where he got familiarized with the MTAES’s information flow management capabilities.
